13 | TSA-Approved Travel Bottles

I am a strong believer in packing light, and one of the main ways that I am able to do this is by storing all of my liquids and gels in travel-sized bottles. There is almost NEVER a reason to take full sized liquids unless you are traveling for a very extended period of time and need products that are unavailable in your destination. These TEAPILE Travel Bottles come with 4 larger bottles for shampoo / conditioner, lotion, and smaller containers to store hair gels, face creams, and the like.

14 | Clear Toiletry Bag

There are several countries that require your liquids to be in a single pouch if you carry them onto the plane. The UK and the US (enforcement varies by airport), are a few examples. And your TEAPILE Travel Bottles should fit perfectly into these!

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but I absolutely love this toiletry bag by BAGSMART, and take my yellow one with me everywhere!

19 | Packing Cubes

I do not travel ANYWHERE without packing cubes! There are two key benefits to using packing cubes:

  1. Organization – You can easily group your clothing by type or style. They also can be used as makeshift “drawers” during your travels
  2. Compression – You can stuff the cubes to the max to fit as many items as possible, and keep your clothes fitting inside the smallest suitcase possible

This Shacke Pak of Packing Cubes is perfect – with 5 different sizes of cubes included, you can use these as needed to accommodate trips of varying lengths.

So, I usually allow myself a carry-on and personal item on the way to my destination, but I’ll bring a bag with me to carry back souvenirs :). I like this folding Wandf Duffle Bag, as it is lightweight and easy to fit into your regular luggage without taking up much space.

22 | Hanging Digital Luggage Scale

A key concern when packing light is making sure your suitcases fit the weight limits set by the airlines. You can avoid discovering the weight of your bag at the airport by weighing it yourself. Now, you are likely aware that you can’t put your suitcase on your bathroom scale, as it is meant for humans only. I recommend purchasing the Etekcity Digital Hanging Luggage Scale, as it is small enough to carry around with you when you travel.

  1. Hi, This is such a good article to, I can relate to it because I travel a lot with my family. I find my self smiling while reading about the folding duffle bag, because I too shop during my trips and needing extra bag :). The wire organizer is something I would consider because I don’t have one.

  2. Hi! Nice article! Very good recommendations!
Based on my own experience, the hanging luggage scale is very useful and saved me many times! I was able to pack everything the night before the flight, by spreading out heavier items. I never need to worry about going over the limit. It’s also simple to use and doesn’t take a lot of space.
It’s my first time hearing about charging cases! I usually use a portable charger, which is actually pretty heavy. Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely check it out.

    Thanks

    1. Great! Yes, the charging case has saved my life many times lol. I will note it is a bit heavier than the standard case, but not heavy enough to be any burden.

  3. Thank you for all the tips on traveling. We are thinking of traveling to Germany (we live in the U.S) later this year and this article will be of big help! Do you have any other tips for flying international?
    Thanks,
    Dan

  4. I’ve done a lot of traveling over the years. The two items that are essential for me are the electric cord organizer and the international adapters. I know it sounds crazy, but when you’re traveling with electronic devices those cords go everywhere. Seriously, it’s a mess. And the adapters are almost critical for your international success if you bring anything electronic. I use to forget mine at home, but then I just keep them in my work bag. Thanks for the great list.

  5. It’s gotta be the electronic charging case for me as my cables end up a total mess or I forget where I left them. A charging phone case would also be on my list and I would give it to my wife who always seems to have 20% left on her phone

  6. Wow. Cool article. It makes me want to jump on a plane to some international destination right now. Also, the packing cubes are really cool.
    Keep up the great work!

  7. Great list! The folding duffel is a lifesaver and always lives in my suitcase. It’s come in handy so many times… usually when I succumb to the lure of a fabric shop while traveling.

  8. Great list! I think the only thing I don’t have on this list is the passport cover. Do you feel like a lot of customs agencies require you to remove it when you go through? I feel like this has happened to me in the past and the main reason I haven’t kept a cover on mine. I am going to certainly look into the phone camera lenses as well.

  9. What would I add?

Rain Jacket/umbrella. Depending on where you are going.

Water shoes or flip flops for the pool or bathroom.

And some other stuff, but then the list would become too long 🙂

    Some good ideas here.
